Becoming an Approved GSA Company

Prospective businesses interested in being approved as a GSA company should know that the General Services Administration’s Multiple Award Schedule Program (GSA MAS) is the number one acquisition vehicle in the U.S. government. The GSA MAS program represents about 10% of total federal procurement spending; approximately $500 billion goes through the GSA schedule each year. Under the GSA schedule program, federal agencies can procure virtually every service and product from any approved GSA company. The government buyer can benefit from shorter lead times, lower administrative costs and less complex procurement regulations. GSA MAS contracts are indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contracts, which do not have a sales limit or ceiling.

An approved GSA company is allowed to sell to the government under the GSA schedule program at pre-negotiated prices. By using the GSA MAS program and buying from an approved GSA company, the government is able to minimize their liabilities and procurement time by getting access to millions of pre-approved products and services. The GSA MAS contracts with commercial firms have four separate five year option terms, up to 20 years total in length.

There are no application fees per se to become an approved GSA company, although it will require sufficient time and company resources to acquire and manage a GSA contract. The GSA MAS program is not a federally funded program; instead it is operated and funded by the Industrial Funding fee (IFF) which currently is set at 0.75% of any sales under the GSA MAS vehicle.

Awarded GSA contract holders will have their pricing uploaded on GSA Advantage!®, an online shopping and ordering system that provides government agencies with access to thousands of GSA contractors and millions of products and services.  The service is intended to benefit any federal agency that has access to the GSA Advantage program. However two federal acts also have allowed for state and local governments to access and purchase from through the GSA MAS program (Cooperative Purchasing Program and the Disaster Recovery Purchasing Program.) GSA contact holders are also given access to GSA eBuy, an online Request for Quote/Request for Proposal system where government agencies can post opportunities and solicitations open only to approved GSA companies.
